Down on the Farm

Sometimes kids just need a wide open space to run around and be free. I am not a kid and I feel that way! Portrait studios are wonderful-- but being outside in a natural environment sometimes works better for kids. This session took place at one of my favorite places-- cute barns, fields, and wild flowers. "Miss P" was about to turn 3 years old and did a wonderful job (with a few special treats). At the end she wanted to stay and play with all the animals especially Hanky the dog.

A lot of time clients over think locations. When picking out places try to think about a photo frame and what fills that space. The main focus will be the subject so the background a lot of time ends up being "noise". Take for example the first picture... I used my 50mm lens at a 1.8 fstop so "Miss P" would pop and the background would blur. Knowing this would happen I still picked a spot that had green in the backdrop to pick up on the accents in her dress. Less is more most of the time.

I was fortunate that this family let me pick out the locations for the shoot. We talked about general ideas, clothing, and style and I went from there. Check out the pictures and leave me a comment or a question! I would love to hear from you.
